AFD INITIATIVE: “COVID-19 HEALTH IN COMMON” - Ecomore Project

“The “COVID-19 – Health in Common” Initiative is a key component of France’s contribution to the global response to COVID-19 for the most vulnerable countries. It will enable the rapid mobilization of technical expertise and funding dedicated to healthcare systems that are going to be under severe pressure in coming weeks, and will also address the immediate economic and social consequences of the crisis,” said Rémy Rioux, AFD Chief Executive Officer.

An additional funding of €2 million in grants has just been awarded by the French Development Agency as part of the ECOMORE II project, implemented by the Institut Pasteur, which aims to strengthen the surveillance, diagnosis and response mechanisms to epidemics in SEA region. This new funding is dedicated to support the 5 partner countries of ECOMORE2 project to better control the COVID epidemic.

  • Strengthening and maintaining the institutes’ front-line laboratories in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam.
  • Supporting recipient institutes with the necessary reagents and supplies for performing molecular biology tests for COVID-19 diagnostics
  • Reinforcing human resources in overburdened front-line laboratories for an optimal response to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Setting up or reinforcing data-collection mechanisms, modeling and conducting epidemiological surveys
