TRANSVERSAL LAB TRAINING AT NIHE - Ecomore Project

On 20-22 March NIHE organized a training for two lab technicians from NHL on Leptospirosis diagnosis technique.

The training focused on:

  • Practical demonstration of preparation of culture media (EMJH)for Leptospirosis, liquid media necessary for growth and isolation of Leptospires and semi-solid media for maintenance of stock culture
  • Isolation of Leptospia in both solid and liquid media.
  • Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT); the trainees could identify 6 different strains of Leptospires and proper use of the dark field microscope
  • Conventional PCR which takes more time due to the need of gel electrophoresis in comparison with qPCR as performed by Dr. Goarant at the NHL during the training conducted at NHL in January 2018
  • Practical handling and interpretation of the results of ELISA test
