In line with the commitment of French president, Emmanuel Macron, who said France will support developing countries in their fight against the COVID-19 with an “emergency budget worth €1,2 billion, the French Development Agency (AFD – Agence Française de Développement) announced on the 29th of April 2020 a €2 million grant for five countries in Southeast Asia through the ECOMORE II project (Ecomore Project) implemented by the Institut Pasteur.
Deputy head of the Virology Unit at IPC, Dr. Veasna Duong, and Dr. Viseht SreyHorm researcher at the Virology Unit had the opportunity to explain their daily works and to give figures to a group of 20 journalists. Their presentation was followed by question and answer sessions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has named Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) as WHO global referral lab for COVID-19. The WHO COVID-19 Reference Laboratory Network is comprised of laboratories able to provide confirmatory testing for COVID-19.
As today, the institute has tested 13,870 individuals and 16,506 samples of COVID-19 between January 22 and June 3, 2020 and remains more than ever on the front line to face the epidemic in Cambodia and more widely in SouthEast Asia.
